A. Plant Kingdom
1) Multicellular
2) autotrophic- Ps
3) Most live on land- problems
Get water / anchor plant----->roots
Grow tall /get sun/ transport water and food-----> stems with
vascular tissue
Sperm swim to egg on land-------- >pollen
3) 2 main Types of plants
a) Mosses- Bryophytes
no real roots or stems- no good anchor- no transport tissue -low to the ground
sperm needs water to swim to egg- must live where it is moist
b) Tracheophytes- vascular plants
have roots, stems and vascular tissue
can grow tall
2 types of tracheophytes
1) Pterophytes- ferns - Seedless tracheophytes
still need water to reproduce, live in moist areas
Alt of Gen: sporophyte / gametophyte
frond / fiddleshead
2) Spermatophytes- seed plants
pollen- no water to reproduce
seeds protect offspring until conditions are good
These can live most anywhere.
Seed- coat, food, embryonic plant
There are 2 kinds of spermatophytes
a) gymnosperms- cone plants
pollen, eggs seeds produced in cones-
conifers, needles, evergreens
"naked seed"
Ginkgo- broad leaf, deciduous gymnosperm
b) angiosperms- flowering plants
pollen, egg and seeds produced in flowers
pretty flowers- attract insects drab flowers- wind pollinate
seed leaves the plant inside the fruit- seed dispersal
sweet, flying, sticking
2 kinds of flowering plants- moncots (grasses, grains, some flowers) and dicots- branching plants
